SUMMARY The Mig Welder is responsible and held accountable for performing the following operations to weld component parts using a MIG (GMAW) welder: Mig Welder Setup & Operation Material Handling Fixturing Safety Quality & Inspection Maintenance Communications Record Keeping Productivity & Efficiency Housekeeping Training Continuous Improvement JOB RESPONSIBILITES include but not limited to the following duties. Other duties may be assigned. • Read & follow work center job instructions • Assemble components using fixtures, clecos, or clamps in preparation for welding • Understand weld symbols • Set voltage, wire speed, and gas flow rate on a mig weld machine • Produce quality welds at a high deposition rate that meet specifications with minimal sanding • Recommend and assist in designing fixtures • Use and develop setup reduction practices to maximize productivity & efficiency • Transport and arrange materials efficiently to & from the work center area • Follow & perform inspection plans to insure quality requirements are met • Assist in training other personnel • Perform and record operator maintenance scheduled on • Assist in developing and follow the prioritized production schedule • Perform good housekeeping • Assist in writing department procedures and process instructions • Follow safety procedures • Assist as a shared resource on other work centers or operations, if qualified • Encourage, implement, and support continuous improvement within the department • Attend department meetings daily • Attend and participate in continuous improvement meetings QUALIFICATIONS To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform the job responsibilities effectively. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE • High School diploma or GED • Successful completion of initial 90 day introductory work period • Effective communicating in English both orally and in written form • Able to perform the math applications, to use the tools & equipment, and to understand & apply blueprint applications required by the job responsibilities CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED • Client Forklift License • Work center Qualification Certificate • Hazardous Material Training • AWS Certification • Employee must meet the requirements of the current highest certification level required by a client customer • Client reserves the right to terminate employment of anyone who does not meet this criteria by the end of their 90 day probationary period • Client will pay for the employee to make three (3) attempts to pass the required certification • If the employee fails all three attempts; at Client’s discretion, the employee may be terminated or moved to another position should there be a position suitable for the employees experience and pay grade • If the employee is retained, the employee can make additional attempts to pass the test at their own expense • Client reserves the right to move an employee to another department and adjust that employees pay if they don’t pass the AWS Certification test. Client will reinstate the employee to their original position and pay when the employee passes the AWS Certification test and Client has an opening in the welding department.
